I live in Temple, Texas and I appreciate Jim Hightower’s criticism of the GOP-led Congress [The Hightower Report: The Damning nuttiness of the GOP’s “Hell No” faction]. Like Hightower, I am appalled at the way Republican legislators have been behaving both in Congress, and in the State of Texas.
I voted for Reagan, Bush (both of them), and McCain. I was brought up on conservative values like sanctity, loyalty, and respect for authority, especially the authority of the President of the United States. But the last few years I have seen such hateful and bitter scathing attacks against a President of the United States by Republicans that I am ashamed to have ever cast my vote in their favor.
The GOP-led Congress is wasting time and millions of my well-earned tax dollars attacking our president and filing frivolous lawsuits. This is not the conservative way. If the GOP continues down this irresponsible road they will not only lose the Hispanic vote, they will lose my vote as well.
The least the GOP can do is pass a comprehensive immigration bill before it’s too late. I can’t think of any greater incentive to get this issue fixed then the horrifying humanitarian crisis developing at our border. We need to pass comprehensive immigration reform in order to provide law enforcement the tools necessary to secure the border and develop a simple and effective employment verification system. No one can deny that the current system is broken, but to do nothing is to accept the status quo. This is what the GOP is doing through their inaction, and the world needs to know how the Republican agenda has hurt the average American.
