The book was published by the US Government in 1979 after assuring me in 1977 that any information about my work as a Special Investigator of the HSCA related investigations of the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. would be kept secret, unless the information was released to the public by myself or by my permission. I have never given that permission but this book was published, regardless.

Below is the contents of an email sent to some members of the press January 21, 2006.
Subject: 1979 US Govt Book proves Gary Revel's MLK Investigaton Story is True
I have been told a number of times by both Chief Counsel Richard Sprague and Deputy Chief Counsel Robert Lehner that my work as Special Investigator on the case would not be released to the press or the public, only I could do that. I didn't provide that until many years later.
Later when I went to the Veterans Administration for help and told them about my work as Special Investigator on the MLK assassination the Dr. wrote in my medical report that I had delusions of grandeur. The truth is out. THEY have been caught by their own lies.
I can tell you now that I entered into this job with the understanding from HSCA Chief Counsel Richard Sprague that my reimbursement of my expenses would be taken care of by the House Select Committee on Assassinations. Later in 1977 when I realized I had done about as much as I could I called the committee's office to send in my expense account I heard that they were having trouble getting continued funding and I probably would not get paid. Well, I didn't. Still haven't after all these years.
Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future.
